The other day, while at Veteran's Acres...I came across this girl...A HUGE snapping turtle. She had crawled ALL the way up that big hill, from the lake below. She was just directly behind the actual Nature Center. When I saw her...I was wondering why she was digging herself a hole. As I looked closer...she had dug the hold to bury her eggs!! It was so amazing. When I first saw her...the eggs were beneath her feet, in the hole she dug. So I continued on with my session.
Amazingly...when we walked up 45 minutes later...she had started to actually deliver more eggs...and I captured the eggs literally flying out of her. I don't ever think I'll get to witness wildlife in such a natural state. I looked at her and just thought about God's creations and how he perfected each one of us...human AND animal. When her eggs came down, she instinctly caught them with her feet and patted them into her hole.
It was then time to meet my next client in the parking lot. By the time we walked back...she had completely filled the hold...smooth and flat like nothing had disturbed the earth...and she was gone. I spend a lot time at Veteran's Acres...so I hope to soon see little baby turtles emerging!!
